Instant Reaction: Disney Investor Day

Everyone who remotely knows me should know that I'm hyper passionate about three-ish things. While I think the Marvel news and the other shows and movies being announced during the Disney Investor Day's event are pretty cool, everyone should know that I only really care about the Star Wars titles being announced. From the Bad Batch all the way to Visions, there is a lot of thought that I have about each one that I just felt like I wanted to write down. This is a totally and completely subjective take on each title announced, so please reach out if you have any additional thoughts or disagreements with these takes. I would love to discuss with anyone and everyone about one of my biggest passions, Star Wars.

The Mandolorian Season 3

In what is probably the most widely known portion before the investor's day reveal, I'm thrilled about this show continuing. The second season is even better than the first and the fact that they tie in both Bo-Katan and Ashoka into a greater plot to capture the Dark Saber and Thrawn respectively gives the plot depth and layers that every great show has. The relationship between Grogu and Din is spectacular, showing a real human side of Din's otherwise cold exterior. This has become a Friday night mainstay and I look forward to seeing season 3, and eventually whenever they announce it 4+. Wouldn't it be fun if The Mandolorian was a The Force Awakens prequel and explained the Snoke/Sidious reincarnation arc?

Ashoka

Ashoka is the single greatest female protagonist ever. Period. There is no question in my mind. Such a strong character with such a deep story. Since the Clone Wars aired, I've been saying that Ashoka needs her own movie. This announcement of a TV show is astronomically better. Rosario Dawson absolutely killed her appearance in the Mandolorian and I would probably rank this show in my top 3 for most excited about of all these titles. Two questions: 1. how many "Sky Guy" and "R2eeee" will we get in this show and 2. How Rebels heavy will it be (aka an Erza Bridger appearance). Both would be good things and welcomed

Rangers of the New Republic

If this is about a Cara Dune plotline that follows a similar setting, I think this could be interesting? It would kinda set up the New Republic so one could see how it operated in compared to the Old Republic and the Republic in the prequels. I haven't more thoughts on this other than curious to see how it turns out.

Lando

Who doesn't want Donald Glover as Lando and, if this is you, can you please understand that you are wrong. This is super cool. Maybe a Falon backstory in here? Maybe just an empirical smuggler story? Love whatever this is. Flushing out the backstory of some of these main Star Wars characters is what the books have done, and it’s refreshing to see new movies and shows about them to add layers.

Star Wars: Acolyte

I have several misgivings about the New High Republic just because the Knights of the Old Republic storyline is arguably the best in Star Wars. The Jedi vs Mandolorion's war that destroyed Mandalore is already non-canon (Mandalore is in the Clone Wars so how could it be). This decolonizes Darth Revan and Bastilla's arc which is a true shame. Maybe the new High Republic can redeem them and maybe this new show would be about Revan or Bastilla. Either way, it's hard to be hopeful but we will see what this brings. The fall of the High Republic might be fun to see?

Andor

This is an interesting move solely for the fact that they are deeming him the main character (only main characters get TV shows) and they have lumped him into the same boat as Lando. I stand by that Rogue One is the second greatest Star Wars show to date, will be cool to get some depth on this character much like with the rest of them

Bad Batch

The best Star Wars arc OF ALL TIME is the Republic Commando book series and game. Not up for debate. This trailer has a very similar feel to the plotline of Republic Commando, in which a Clone Commando Squad separates from the GAR during the fallout of Order 66. Maybe just name them Delta Squad and make me happy c'mon. But seriously, looks to be a really good show that hopefully will follow the spectacular highs that Clone Wars Season 7 left us on.

Star Wars Visions

No idea how this will turn out but a different style of media is always refreshing. The Clone Wars 2003 is way better than most other Star Wars content, and it definitely helped that is was in an anime style.

The Droid Story

C3PO constantly complaining to R2 about "this and that" while both of them get into trouble but miraculously end up on top. For those who don't know, there was a cartoon in the late '80s that might not have been highly rated, but it is good. Trust me. All-Star Wars is good. But probably will be a fun thing to watch regardless of age. Maybe a comic relief movie kinda like how Jar-Jar was in the prequels?

Rogue Squadron

This might be the top 3 best movies of all time. Firstly, Rogue Squadron is an X-wing squadron in the rebellion and is Luke's call sign. So it appears to be a fast pace dog fight movie that might remind some of a World War 1 movie. Honestly Hype. Biggs and Wedge probably will be the main characters in this movie as well so that's nice. Also, the 3 Rogue Squadron games were the most fun to play as a kid, so I'm nostalgic

Taika's Star Wars

Don't even know anything about it so absolutely no thoughts.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Do you want a show about Kenobi? Okay. It will already be the greatest show of all time. Do you want to cast Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi? Holy Cow. Hayden Christianson as Lord Vader? MY OH MY OH MY. I've long stated that the best thing Star Wars could do would be a rated R Vader film set 10 years after Episode 3, to show just how evil Vader has become. Think Vader's Rage in Rogue One, but for a movie. This show might end up doing just that and I AM READY.

Conclusion

When Disney bought Star Wars in 2013, I actually resented the move. They canceled video games Star Wars Battlefront 3 and Star Wars 1313, de-canonized ALL of the books, labeling them as "legend", canceled Star Wars: The Clone Wars prematurely, and supplanted it with Star Wars: Rebels, and made a rather lack lusted sequel trilogy. All bad moves, yet, recently have begun to turn the ship around. Star Wars Battlefront 2 (EA) and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are great games, Clone Wars season 7 is phenomenal, and The Mandolorian might be the best Star Wars content I've seen so far (after Ep. 3 of course). I'm extremely excited and hopeful for all of these shows, especially Ashoka, Kenobi, Bad Batch, and the Movie Rogue Squadron.
